Telephone conversation between M. Emmanuel Macron, President of the Republic, and Mr Donald Trump, President of the United States of America – Communiqué issued by the Presidency of the Republic

President Emmanuel Macron spoke by phone on 21 March to US President Donald Trump. They discussed the assassination attempt against Sergei and Yulia Skripal, who were attacked with a nerve agent in Salisbury, and agreed that the only plausible explanation was that Russia was responsible. They condemned all uses of chemical weapons and emphasized that France and the United States stand together, side by side, with the United Kingdom following this attack.
With respect to the unilateral measures regarding steel and aluminum announced by the US administration on 8 March, the French and American Presidents touched on recent discussions between the European Commission and the US Administration.
Finally, President Macron and President Trump said they were looking forward to seeing one another during the French President’s state visit to Washington from 23 to 25 April./.
