Saint Lucia – Rescuing of French Nationals from Sinking Catamaran - Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs Spokeman Statement
On December 22nd 2011, a catamaran on which fifteen young French nationals were cruising was wrecked off the south coasts of Saint Lucia.
Immediately, a rescue operation has been put into place in order to help them. The quick and efficient mobilization of the Civil Security from Martinique, the French forces in the West Indies, the French Embassy to the OECS Member States in Saint Lucia as well as the Saint Lucian Authorities has permitted to avoid a disaster and to shelter the young French nationals, thanks to the helicopters.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Saint Lucian Authorities for their effectiveness in these hard weather conditions and for the help they provided during the entire rescue operation.
