Saint Lucia explains position on OAS Venezuela vote

Saint Lucia is one of the member countries that abstained from a vote on the Organisation of American States (OAS) resolution on Venezuela, and is seeking to clarify its decision on the matter. The Foreign Affairs Ministry says that the current situation in Venezuela is critical and cited the many areas of concern for St Lucia, particular the mass migration which can impact the security in many of the neighbouring countries, St Lucia included.

Regional stakeholder consultation to look at making the CSME more effective

Past and Present regional leaders are scheduled to take part in a consultation on the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) on 8th and 9th June 2018. Almost 50 participants will be in attendance, including Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Dr Ralph Gonsalves. The consultation is facilitated with the assistance of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).

BARBADOS
IMF says Barbados is in a precarious situation

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is prescribing some bitter medicine for Barbados even before it reaches an agreement to assist the Government. The IMF team which ended their three-day visit in the country yesterday has warned that Barbados is in a precarious economic situation and substantial austerity measures are needed. Discussions on economic policies will continue in the coming months with the goal of reaching understandings that could support an IMF structural adjustment programme.
