Taiwan gives US$1.3M to SVG

On Thursday last week, His Excellency Baushuan Ger, Taiwanese Ambassador to Saint Vincent & the Grenadines presented three cheques to the value of US$1.2 million to Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves. The funds will be used for the road maintenance programme, to purchase equipment and a vehicle for the Inland Revenue Department, as well as to purchase equipment for the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

Newly appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs in the recently sworn Keith Mitchell Administration, Honourable Peter David, describes his new role as a bitter sweet moment in his career as he leaves his private life as an attorney to serve in public office. David who is passionate about assisting the underprivileged says that he is determined to use his status to set up a legal aid system in the country, something which he has already discussed with the Prime Minister.

St Kitts-Nevis outlines major concerns with European Commission officials

During a meeting with a high-level European Union mission in Saint Kitts yesterday, Prime Minister Timothy Harris says that his Government strongly rejects the inclusion of the Federation on a list of non-cooperative tax jurisdictions, noting that the process was unfair in that not enough time was given to deal with the issues. He went further to state that the guidelines provided by the European Union are inadequate. With regards to St Kitts and Nevis, the only area of concern from the EU is in respect of fair taxation.

The withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union is of paramount concern to the Caribbean region as it relates to trade. In that light, a number of Government Ministers and delegates from the Caribbean Forum of African Caribbean and Pacific States (CARIFORUM) countries are currently meeting in Saint Kitts-Nevis at a Special CARIFORUM Council of Ministers.
