Statement from the Government of Grenada on the attack that endangered the life of President Nicolas Maduro

The Government of Grenada has issued a statement strongly denouncing the drone attack against President Nicolas Maduro, while he was addressing a gathering to mark the 81st anniversary of the Bolivarian National Guard last weekend in Caracas. The Government categorically rejects the resort to violence and calls for respect for the sovereignty of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

Inniss’ arrest casts shadow over DLP conference

The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) may call of its annual conference scheduled for this Sunday following the arrest of its member and former Minister Donville Inniss. Inniss, who was to contest the position of General Secretary of the Party, was arrested and charged earlier this week in the United States for alleged money laundering. Some members of the executive are now requesting a two-week postponement saying the Inniss matter would be a dark cloud of the entire affair.

Barbados has received yet another downgrade. Standards & Poor Global Ratings lowered its issue-level ratings on the country’s global bonds due 2019 and 2022 to D (default) from CC. The international rating agency also lowered its long and short term local currency sovereign issue credit ratings to SD from CC and C respectively. The latest downgrades have left several people concerned.

Local investigators see success with CCTV in their crime-fighting arsenal

A final report on the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras which were installed in Basseterre and its environs highlights the key role which the said cameras are playing in crime fighting in the Federation. The report which was prepared by the Ministry of National Security with the input of the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force, states that a number of serious crimes have been solved directly as a result of video footages produced from these cameras.
