Chastanet wants visa restrictions on Venezuelan’s

St Lucia Times

The situation in Venezuela is a cause for concern for Saint Lucia and hence Prime Minister Chastanet has asked the competent authorities to consider visa restrictions on Venezuelans entering the country. He says he is also concerned about the security threats to the country and the region due to the ongoing crisis. However, he still reiterates his country’s position against foreign intervention in the troubled South American nation.

After the eight hour meeting last Friday between the Prime Minister and the major trade unions, including the private sector association, the situation has still not been resolved. President of the National Union of Public Workers says that while they went into the discussion hoping for a resolution, the contentious issues were still left unresolved. He also says that such is an indication that the Freundel Stuart Administration does not take the concerns of the workers seriously.

Atlantic system may become next tropical storm ; potential threat for Lesser Antilles late this week

The National Hurricane Centre is reporting a disturbed weather which may develop into a Tropical depression or storm later this week and which may also affect the Lesser Antilles. The Centre has given the system a medium chance of development during the next five day. It is not expected to reach the Lesser Antilles until Friday or Saturday.
