Dominica Freedom Party elects new leader

The Dominica Freedom Party held its delegates conference in Roseau last Sunday during which a new leader was elected. Kent Vital, an economist, is now the political leader of the much dormant Party. Medical Doctor, Sam Christian, was elected Deputy Political Leader.

St Lucia PM outlines his vision for the country

Last week Friday, in an interview with the said news outlet, the Prime Minister laid out his vision for the country and his approach to some important matters such as crime and tourism. This interview coincided with the signing of an agreement between his government, Range Development and Marriott International for the establishment and operation of a luxury resort in the south of the island.

Linton, Francis and George charged with obstruction

Three members of the opposition United Workers Party have been served with court summons on charges of wilfully obstructing police in the execution of their duty. These charges date back to events which took place in February when acts of violence and vandalism took place in Roseau following a meeting organised by the Opposition calling on the resignation of Prime Minister Skerrit.

Antigua-Barbuda welcomes resolution of criminal case as part of failure by US to comply with WTO ruling on internet gaming

Felony charges brought against a permanent residence of Antigua & Barbuda in the United States on charges of illegal gambling have been finally dismissed after the case dragging for about five years. Calvin Ayre who took up permanent residence in Antigua and Barbuda in 2007 has a gaming company. The Government of Antigua has congratulated him on the resolution of the case.

Ren Biao returned to China on his own

The blaming game between the Unity Government and the Opposition over the handling of a citizenship by investment application of a Chinese national is finally over, after the said national returned to China and handed himself over to the authorities. Ren Biao who became an economic citizen of Saint Kitts in 2014, was on Interpol wanted list.

Two tropical systems threaten the Caribbean

According to the National Hurricane Centre, two tropical systems currently threatening the Caribbean are being monitored. Slow development of the systems is possible during the next several days. Showers and thunderstorms are showing signs in association with a strong tropical wave located over the west-central Caribbean Sea.

Petition seeks to stop Brigitte Macron from being official First Lady

During the campaign Macron indicated that if he were elected his wife would have a “fully public role” but that she would not be paid a salary from public funds. The creation of a First Lady status came before the National Assembly last week, with much opposition. Furthermore, an online petition has received nearly 200 000 signatures against such.

Inquest begins into death of French motorist in Saint Vincent

A coroner’s inquest into the death of a 31 year old French national who died in an accident in 2014 will begin. Geslin Emmanuel Grocravia, a motorcyclist from Martinique, who was in Saint Vincent to take part in motorcycle events as part of the country’s Independence celebrations, met his demise when he was hit by a truck in Arnos Vale.
