Despite questions being raised by the Opposition on identity information, Prime Minister Skerrit has revealed that Dominicans will soon be able to travel with Electronic passports, and that his government is on the threshold of signing an agreement with a European Union firm to begin the issuance of these electronic passports by the first quarter of 2018.

Prime Minister Skerrit has dismissed suggestions that his Government needs the help of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He indicated during his budget speech that Dominica is well within the required debt to GDP ratio and the assistance of international financial institution is necessary only when such has passed 120 per cent.

A retired trade union leader in the person of Dennis Clarke is weighing on the worrying trend and upsurge in murders in the country. Despite such, he says he is still not convinced that the country should resume hanging and is also raising doubt that capital punishment would act as a deterrent to murder. The last hanging took place in Barbados in 1984.
