French Singing Competition in St Kitts
From February to April 2018, The Alliance Française de St. Kitts et Nevis organized a French Sing-ing Competition over the 13 public and private schools of the Federation. On 32 initial applications, 15 students were pre-selected and 14 finalists competed in front of the jury and an audience of about 200 persons: medias, press service of the Ministry of Education, sponsors, guests, Principals and Teachers, candidats’ family came to support the finalists.
The candidates’ involvement and their exceptional level of motivation particularly marked the event ; either by the rigour, the moral seriousness with which they approached the competition, or their theatrical stage direction (including the family and the friends’ involvement who came some-times on stage as well!). A special effort about the French approach had been identified: not only do they had to learn a French song and sing it a front of a jury and a large audience, some students voluntarily wanted to say some French words to introduce their performance.
All those elements allowed, without any exception, to our 14 finalists to end this competition with the smile and above all, to keep a strong spirit of solidarity and conviviality.
Our three Winners came back with the following prices :
1st Place Zareef Dias : one trip to Paris with return tickets for two with accomodation and a trophee.
2nd Place Turquoisa Henry : 150XCD of gift voucher, 8months of French Class at the Alli-ance Française, one Miss Dior Perfum and a bag, a Scotia Bank bag, one trophee and two tickets for the St. Kitts Scenic Railway
3rd Place Terron Webb : 100XCD of gift voucher, 4months of French Class at the Alliance Française, one Allure Chanel Perfume and a bag, a Scotia Bank bag, one trophee and two tickets for the St. Kitts Scenic Railway
This competition, focused on the French culture and language, allowed the students from public and private schools to get sensibilized to the attractiveness of learning French. This edition was a really huge success either by the motivation of the candidates, the quality of their performance or the involvement of the educational institutions, the Principals, the Teachers, and the Ministry of Education. The final concert rejoiced the 200 present people, sponsors and participants. The result is the desire of the Alliance Française de St. Kitts et Nevis with the Ministry of Education to make this event an annual meeting.
This French Singing Competition is sponsored by Scotiabank, Gold Sponsor of the event, as well as St. Kitts Scenic Railway, Courtesy Rent-A-Car and Island Purified Water, Bronze Sponsors of the event.
