Delegation of scientists and officials from France to Saint Lucia
Mission of a multi-institutional French delegation in the framework of the candidature of Martinique to the UNESCO World Heritage for the volcanoes and forest of Mount Pelee.
In the framework of the candidature of Mount Pelée and the Piton du Nord de la Martinique to the UNESCO World Heritage, the territorial collectivity of Martinique, the State and the Regional Natural Park of Martinique (PNRM) are in the process of setting up a scientific research programme with the National Museum of Natural History in Paris. This programme is also part of a cooperative effort with the islands of Saint Lucia and Dominica. This programme, called "La Planète Revisitée" (http://www.laplanetereisitee.org), consists of intensive surveys to improve knowledge of the fauna and flora with the aim of implementing it on the three islands, thanks to the Interreg programme.
A mission made up of 9 representatives from the Martinique Department of the Environment, Planning and Housing (DEAL), in association with the CTM, the PNRM, the Martinique National Botanical Conservatory and the National Forestry Office (ONF), travelled to Dominica and Saint Lucia alongside the Regional Counsellor for Cooperation (CORCAC) to present their project, meet with ministers and actors in charge of managing natural areas and local biodiversity experts, and to prepare future missions.
