Alliance Française’s students trip to Guadeloupe as part of an exchange program with the St John Perse High School in Guadeloupe.

In partnership with the St John Perse High School in Guadeloupe, the Alliance Française of St. Kitts and Nevis organized a five (5) day trip to Guadeloupe as part of an exchange program between the two islands.

As a result of successfully hosting a number of fundraising events, seventeen (17) students from the Alliance Française were given the opportunity to participate in the trip from Tuesday 19th to Saturday 23rd February 2019.

The families of the St John Perse High School students hosted the Kittitians from the Alliance Française, which allowed them to be fully integrated in the country and to benefit from the best cultural approach.
There were twenty six (26) students from the St John Perse High School. The activities organized during the day provided the opportunity for the students to connect, to visit the island and to exchange on their respective cultures.

The program was as followed:

Tuesday 19th February
-  Arrival of the students of St. Kitts in Guadeloupe, welcome by the hosting families and settling of the students in their accommodation (1 or 2 students per family)

Wednesday 20th February
-  French Breakfast at the St John Perse High School
-  Reception and meeting at the CWTC with the representatives of the Association of Mayors of Guadeloupe
-  Visit to the Zoo of Guadeloupe at the « Parc des Mamelles » and lunch break
-  Visit to the Botanical Garden in Deshaies
-  Shopping at the shopping mall Destreland
-  Return to the hosting families.

Thursday 21st February
-  One day trip to « Les Saintes » in « Terre-de-Haut », walk to the Napoleon Fort and discovery of the island
-  Lunch break in a local restaurant and sampling Guadeloupean specialties
-  Outdoor activities on the beach and games
-  Return to the hosting families.

Friday 22nd February
-  Local breakfast at the High School and cultural exchange morning: discovery of the « Gwoka », a Guadeloupean dance. Presentation of the values and the symbols of St. Kitts, then, Guadeloupean traditional Games (Banza, Ika Ipaka, Wou, Twotinèt, Disbwa, Ralé Kod, Kous An Sak…)
-  Local lunch at the High School
-  Visit to the museum « MEMORIAL ACTe » Caribbean center of expressions and memory of the slave trade and slavery
-  Visit to the Gosier night market
-  Return to the hosting families.

Saturday 23rd February
-  Free morning and lunch with the hosting families
-  Meeting at the airport at the start of the afternoon to return to St. Kitts.

This experience was a real success for our students who approached the cultural and linguistic exchanges with dynamism and enthusiasm. This event has been supported by the St. Kitts Co-operative Credit Union and the Ministry of Education of St. Kitts and Nevis.
