2013 Caribbean Youth Fortnight
Each year, OMDAC (The Martinican Organization for the Development of Arts and Culture) gives young persons from the Caribbean region an opportunity to discover Martinique during the summer. The organizers of the event seek “to bring together the different peoples of the region” who share, if not the same language, the same history and culture, within the framework of a “mutual discovery and the experience of intercultural exchanges, within the spirit of Caribbean cultural co-operation”.
This year, the 14th Edition, was held from 30th July to 13th August, which included the celebration of “International Youth Day” (UNESCO) on 12th August.
For many years, this cultural and educational event is supported by the Regional Department for Co-operation of this Embassy, responsible for a return airline ticket for one young person from each OECS Member State, Cuba and the Dominican Republic, and by the network of Alliances Françaises, in charge of identifying and selecting the participants.
This year, the 14th Edition of the 2013 Caribbean Youth Fortnight has again been the subject of important media coverage, which placed particular emphasis on the efforts of the youth who took part, the technical and logistical support of the municipalities and the invaluable assistance of the Regional Council of Martinique, as well as the commitment of all the partners involved.
